ABOUT US

texasFor the past few years Jane and I have been traveling the back roads and inner cities of Texas locating and photo documenting some of the famous Painted Churches of Texas. Our aim is to raise awareness and document a visual history of these intricately painted 19th century churches built by immigrants from Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Austria, France, Mexico and Spain. To this aim we have photographed the interiors, exteriors and collected history of more than 20 Painted Churches in Texas. We think there are another 25 or more undocumented churches across Texas. Using my 40+ years of photography experience with traditional, digital photography along with new technology I have compiled large images with the new GigaPan technology. I feel it is extremely important to continue documenting these Texas Treasures.

What is GigaPan? GigaPan Systems was founded in 2008 as a collaborative project between Carnegie Mellon University and NASA’s Ames Research Center with support from Google. The original GigaPan robotic hardware and related software was devised for NASA’s Mars Spirit and Opportunity Rovers to capture high-definition panoramas of Mars.

We invite you to come experience a close up look at these painted treasures. Photographed digitally and with GigaPan technology experience interactive views of these beautiful Churches. The exhibit is at the Institute of Texan Cultures, San Antonio, TX. It opened Nov. 19th and will run through March 5th 2017.

I suggest you do two things, get your Guide Book from this site or at the Gift Shop at Institute of Texan Cultures, and enjoy these “Texas Jewels”… secondly leave a nice donation at each church donation box! Maintenance and restoration of these fine Texas heritages is not cheap, in fact it can run in the millions very quickly... So please help the cause.
